After your first week on Nutrisystem, things get personal. Your meal plan will be designed for your height, weight, gender, activity level and body type. In week two, NuMi will update your calorie goal to a number that’s unique to you. NuMi will ask you a few easy questions to calculate your personalized calorie goal.

Once your personalized calories are calculated, they won’t change for the next 28 days until you enter week six. This helps you to form good habits and sets you up for success in your first month.

You’ve probably noticed that your calories will be increasing after the first week. When you see this increase, you may be wondering why your calorie goal is changing. But don’t worry! Rest assured that your calories are calculated specifically for you. Plus, keep in mind that eating too little can actually hinder your weight loss progress!

While you do need a calorie deficit when trying to lose weight, dropping your calories too low for too long can backfire. When your calories are too low, your body will defend against this by slowing your metabolism (also known as metabolic adaptation). This is the opposite of what you need from a weight loss plan!

Nutrisystem programs are designed to provide a healthy rate of weight loss, which is about one to two pounds per week. Speak to a Weight Loss Coach if you have any questions or concerns about your recommended calorie goal or weight loss.

Celebrate continuous weight loss success as your personal weight loss plan adapts to your metabolism. As you lose weight and/or increase your activity level, the number of calories you need starts to change.

NuMi addresses these metabolic changes by adjusting your diet to coincide with weight loss and activity level changes. Your plan will start to adapt to your changing metabolism in the sixth week of your journey. This ensures that you’re eating the proper amount to keep losing weight at a steady, healthy pace instead of hitting frustrating plateaus.

After one full month on your personalized meal plan, we’ll check in on you in NuMi to see if we need to recalculate your calories. Make sure that you are continuously logging your weight loss progress in the app, as these changes happen each time you achieve a 10-pound weight loss milestone. Simply answer the questions in NuMi when asked and we will update your meal plan if needed.
