5 Essential Tips for Nutrisystem Success Newbies

As you get ready to take the next step in your weight loss journey—that is, maintaining all the weight that you’ve worked so hard to lose—you might feel a bit uneasy. Maybe you still want some tips or support from the program that helped you shed those pounds in the first place.

That’s why we created Nutrisystem Success, our transition and maintenance plans that will help you gradually replace pre-made Nutrisystem meals with flex meals and snacks that you make at home. With our guidance, plus all your favorite Nutrisystem meals when you need them most, you will be all set to get started.

Still, we know that change can be intimidating. That’s why we gathered these tips for new Nutrisystem Success members to help you feel confident getting started.

1. Don’t Be Afraid

Making the leap to start Flexing more meals can be scary, admits Morgan Root, a Nutrisystem Success Story. But don’t let that fear hold you back. Root admits that she was so accustomed to the structure that Nutrisystem had given her that she was afraid, left to make decisions on her own, she would fall into old habits.

Root found that Success gave her much of the same structure she had learned to love about Nutrisystem, while still giving her the room needed to make healthy choices on her own. She wants others to know that there is nothing to be afraid of as you make that transition. It’s an exciting time!

2. Don’t Hesitate to get Started

Whether it’s that fear that Root discusses, or something else that is holding you back from transitioning over to Nutrisystem Success, don’t let indecision take over. Nutrisystem Success customer Melissa Vlahos says that if you feel ready to make the switch—or if you’re pondering whether or not you need the program—it’s time to give it a try.

“I would tell anyone who is thinking about trying the maintenance plan to go ahead and do it,” Vlahos says. “Don’t even hesitate! Sometimes we all need a little help in life making healthy choices. This maintenance program helps with just that—keeping us on track with our goals. After all, we worked really hard to get to our goal weight—why wouldn’t we take advantage of the help that the maintenance program provides?” She’s absolutely right!

3. Take Baby Steps

Like Root, Brian Audubon, another Nutrisystem Success Story admits that the change may seem scary at first, but he describes how quickly you realize how easy it is. Still, Audubon says his best tip is to start off with baby steps, so that you don’t get overwhelmed at the onset.

“Just like when you started Nutrisystem and it was a new method and structure, you may have felt like there were hurdles and bumps to overcome,” Audubon says. “But, Success takes those bumps and questions out of the way and will help you exceed your own expectations. Maintenance can be a hard road. Just don’t give in and quit. Get on the phone and call the helpline to talk directly to someone at Nutrisystem. Get on the Success program and stay motivated. You can do this and Nutrisystem can help you!”

4. Lean on the System

Nutrisystem Success Story Ashley O’Reilly says that she loves the Success program because it has made everything about maintaining weight loss so easy. She says that Success has completely eased her fears that she would begin to gain some of the weight back as she transitioned off of Nutrisystem,

She adds that her best tip to others would be to actually use the program. Don’t get started with Success to ultimately ignore the Flex meal guidelines or start relying solely on Nutrisystem meals or snacks when you need them. The best way to successfully make the transition is to actually take advantage of the support that is available.

“I truly liked the product and it was easily accessible,” O’Reilly adds. “It worked out great for me when I was packing lunches for work, taking a snack to class or starting on a long car ride.”

Continue using the NuMi app to keep track of your daily menu. Just make sure to change to Nutrisystem Success mode! Success mode will provide you with a new calorie goal and meal plan that’s designed to help you manage your new weight.

NuMi will ask if you want to change to Nutrisystem Success mode when you log your goal weight into the app. If NuMi doesn’t prompt you, you can always manually switch to it later. Just tap More > Settings > Plan Settings > Stage > Success. 

Once you change to Success mode, NuMi will ask you about your activity level. The options are less than 60 minutes daily, 60 minutes daily, or more than 60 minutes daily. Answer accurately, as this will help NuMi determine your new calorie goal. 

5. Increase Your Physical Activity

When you’re ready to maintain your goal weight, we recommend increasing your activity level from 30+ minutes a day to 60+ minutes a day. That’s because research shows this is important for weight maintenance.

But don’t worry! This can be something as simple as increasing the amount of time spent brisk walking. The goal is to aim for a steady energy balance!
