Alice’s story began with a serious health issue, and ended with a tremendous health victory and an 84 pound weight loss.* Here is her story:

By Alice Bosley

I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) about 20 years ago. Over the next several years, I continued to gain weight always using PCOS as my crutch, saying “I can’t help it… I have PCOS.” I tried several fad diets along the way but not surprisingly, none of them worked.

Alice, then…

At my 2011 annual physical, my doctor informed me that according to my current BMI, I was now categorized as obese. I already had high blood pressure and was told I was borderline diabetic. I felt helpless and cried the entire day. That summer while playing on the church softball team, I tore my calf muscle while running from second to third base. I was mortified as I was helped off the field. In my mind, everyone was saying “Well, that’s what happens when a fat girl tries to run.” I quit the team after that.

… and now.

That winter, I got on the scale before work and could not believe how much I weighed… more than I ever had! I went to work devastated thinking, “But I can’t help it. I have PCOS. This is just what my body is programmed to do. I can’t do anything about it.” I then thought about my mom and her struggles with weight her entire life and all the medical problems she also incurred from PCOS and knew this was going to be me very soon. I continued into work and sat in the young, thin receptionist’s chair to cover her vacation day, and as I leaned back the chair broke. That was “the moment.”

I spent the rest of the day looking ahead to my future. I was going to be 40 in 10 months and dreading it. I was getting older, weighed 225 pounds, had become terribly insecure, didn’t want to be involved in any social activity, and just hated myself.

I knew I had to do something. I had seen several ads for Nutrisystem and decided to try it, just to cross it off the list of diets that didn’t work for me and my PCOS. When I signed up I put next to my 180 pound goal weight, “I want to love me at 40.”

On my 40th birthday I had not only met my goal weight, but was down to 150 pounds! I have learned SO much about my eating habits with Nutrisystem, not only for losing weight but also maintaining it. I am so much more outgoing than I have been in the past 20 years and love being involved in everything I can… I’ve even proudly re-joined my softball team! Best of all, I DO love me at 40!!

My mom last saw me in September before she passed away and told me how proud she was that I was taking control of my weight to control my health issues. I remember this every day because she really was my inspiration for my weight loss.
