Make Your Home Safe for Your Diet

Along your weight loss journey, you’ll find challenges unique to where you find yourself—and perhaps nowhere more so than at home. Here are some tips to help you make your home safe for your diet.

Problem Spot: The fridge/freezer. You’ll find ice cream there. Solution: Stock it with good stuff. Fruit. Veggies. Lean meats. Bottled water. As long as you’ve chosen your add-ins wisely, this should be a gold mine.

Problem Spot: The pantry and cabinets. Treats live here. Solution: Carve out your own area for Nutrisystem food and only Nutrisystem food, and keep tempting goodies away.

Problem Spot: The table. It’s where you get to watch others eat. Solution: Choose a Nutrisystem meal that’s the same or similar to what everyone else is having, and you’ll still feel like part of the dining gang—but you’ll be eating healthier.

Problem Spot: Wherever the TV is. Bad eating habits and melt-into-the-couch moments start here. Solution: Keep watching The Good Wife or Dancing with the Stars. But make sure you don’t do so lying around. Exercise during commercials. Even sitting on the floor while watching TV works muscles more than lounging in an easy chair or recliner.

Problem Spot: The bathroom. It’s where the scale is. Solution: Balance your scale-watching. The temptation to look at that thing every single day will result in an emotional roller coaster ride. Once a week is a good schedule to set for yourself to monitor your progress. And remember: the scale isn’t the be-all, end-all, either. There are plenty of other ways to measure success, like walking up a flight of stairs or fitting into a smaller pair of jeans.
