Mom’s Advice and Weight Loss, Part 3

Article posted in: Diet & Nutrition

This week, we’ve been talking about things your mom may have said to you when you were a child, and seeing if they have meaning now that you’re on a weight loss journey. Today’s installment: It’s a beautiful day! Go outside and play!

Mom was spot on when she said this, especially at this time of year. If you’re like most people, thanks to cubicles, the Internet and computer games, chances are you’ve become a lot more sedentary than you were when you were young. Remember playing outside? Remember kickball and tag, snake-in-the-gutter, jump rope and hide-‘n-go-seek? Remember walking along in the woods or on a long stretch of road without a care in the world?

Now, whenever you do anything physical, you call it “exercise.” Even the word gets such a bad rap. There’s really no way to think of being outside as much more than a chore. But your mom knew all along how much fun you had feeling your body move and stretching yourself to be the best batter or hoops guard.

No matter how old you are, you can experience those feelings of fun again. You can put on your favorite Saturday clothes, go outside and start moving, no matter the day of the week. It’s spring: the days are getting warmer and longer. Get out there and have some fun!
