“Nutrisystem has enabled me to turn everything around.”

Fitness folks say that you “can’t out-train a bad diet.” If you eat anything and everything, almost no reasonable amount of exercise—no matter how shirt-soaking it may be—can keep the weight off. And retired U.S. Army officer Brandon Phillips found out the hard way that it’s true. In order to begin an inspiring weight loss journey, you need to commit to eating well first and foremost.
“I was simply in a continuous state of trying to out-exercise very bad eating habitats… it was unsustainable,” he says. Despite training for marathons and triathlons, his eating was resulting in weight gain. And science says his results are what you should expect: A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2011 followed dieters, some of whom exercised without changing their eating, and others changing their eating without exercising. The exercise-only crowd lost only one percent of their body weight during the year of study, while those who changed their eating alone lost 10 percent of their body weight.

When you can’t exercise anymore—because you’re injured or too busy—it can get even worse. That’s what happened to Brandon. “When circumstances in my life prevented me from allotting time to continuous training of that magnitude, the consequences of my diet began to unfold,” he says. “In less than 24 months, I had gained 35 pounds.”
But here’s the good news: Unlike exercise, which can take weeks or months to reveal results you can see, changing your nutrition can bring about its first changes almost overnight. And that’s what happened when Brandon tried Nutrisystem.
“My weight began to drop off even without exercise. My energy level throughout the day began to increase,” he says. Starting his day with a Turkey Sausage & Egg Muffin, snacking on a Nutrisystem bar, and, as Brandon says, learning to “fall in love with vegetables” again, the weight came off fast: He’s lost 50 pounds.*

Best of all, he was able to return to the exercise he’s always loved, now getting in four to five sessions per week. Combined with Nutrisystem, that’s helped Brandon transform his body into a shape he hasn’t seen since his Army days.
“I haven’t worn this size pants in 25 years! I’m in better shape now than when I was running,” he says. “Nutrisystem has enabled me to turn everything around. I am leaner and healthier than ever, and I don’t have to overdo it with exercise to have it. I feel incredible.”
