“I learned how strong I am, and how much I can accomplish if I put my mind to it.”Article posted in: Success Stories - Women
Losing weight with preteens and teenagers in the house seems impossible: They’re always eating, so your fridge stays stocked; you’re always on the go—shuttling them to recitals, practices, and other places where it’s tough to find a filling, healthy meal before rushing to the next destination. Creating your own successful weight loss story can seem out of reach with the craziness of everyday life, but it’s not.
Life was busy for Cory Goodrich, but Nutrisystem made it simple. With her two daughters to drive around, the convenience of Nutrisystem’s grab-and-go options meant she always had something on-plan that she could eat.
“Stay prepared. If you can avoid the trips to fast food joints after school and between lessons and car pools, you’ll be better for it,” she says. “I love the convenience of always having a healthy snack or meal with me. I can take them anywhere, and I don’t have to waste money and calories on junk.”
Preparing the at-home dinners was so easy, Cory didn’t have any trouble fitting it in, all while keeping her two girls fueled up.
“I found it so easy to cook for my family and still incorporate my Nutrisystem meals,” she says. “If they had mac and cheese, I had Nutrisystem mac and cheese. And often times, they coveted my meal!”
Those meals helped Cory lose 40.5 pounds*—and gain energy, confidence and a whole new view of her body throughout her successful weight loss story.
“The first time I went clothes shopping after I’d lost 30 pounds, I brought in a size eight to the fitting room. The sales clerk said, ‘no, that will be way too big for you,’” she says. When the clerk brought in a size four, Cory didn’t think it would fit, but it did. “I started crying. I couldn’t believe how many sizes I had dropped. It was the first time in 10 years that I felt beautiful.”
She felt confident enough to put on a bathing suit for the first time in a dozen years. And she says the confidence has helped her in her career, too, adding to the many positive aspects of her successful weight loss story.
“I learned how strong I am, and how much I can accomplish if I put my mind to it,” she says.
Cory also learned to measure success in multiple ways. When the scale wouldn’t budge, she stayed motivated by focusing on other changes—how many inches she’d lost, her new clothing sizes, or the energy she’d gained.
“I am the Energizer Bunny! Seriously, I never nap anymore, and I am going all day long,” she says.
Even more important than having the energy to take her girls everywhere, Cory says she’s giving them something even better: A role model. Being that role model is what motivates her to stay healthy and to teach her daughters the lessons she’s learned on this journey.
“Strength doesn’t come from what you can do,” she says. “It comes from what you thought you couldn’t do.” And that’s what made the difference.
