We’re working our way through the alphabet of things you should know to make your weight loss program more fun, more nutritious and more delicious. Here we are on part three, with the letters K through O:
K is for Kale. You need look no farther than a restaurant menu or a grocery store to know that kale is having a moment. And why not? Kale is a nutritional super food; packed with fiber, it can help lower cholesterol, lower your risk for certain forms of cancer and aid in your body’s natural detoxification processes. Enjoy it raw or steamed.
L is for Lemons. Packed with Vitamin C and enough flavor to perk up even the dullest piece of chicken, lemons deserve place in every kitchen. Squeeze their juice on fish or raw greens, add it to a cup of tea for a quick boost of flavor and cold-fighting mojo and add it to a marinade for chicken or pork.
M is for Motivation. What keeps you going on your weight loss path? Everybody has a special motivation. Maybe it’s a desire to get back in shape. Maybe your doctor told you your health depends on it. Maybe you just want to be able to keep up with your kids. Regardless, keep it in mind when the going gets tough and temptation strikes. It can be a huge help.
N is for Nutrient-Dense Food. If you’re going to eat something, it might as well be as filled with nutritional benefit as possible, right? That’s why we like super foods, things like salmon, Greek yogurt, berries and tree nuts. The calories you get from these foods come linked to vitamins, flavenoids and oils that can protect your heart. That just doesn’t happen with potato chips, so choose wisely.
O is for Overweight and Obese. More than two-thirds of all Americans are either overweight or obese. The good news: we can stop that trend dead in its tracks and even reverse it. If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already taken the first steps. Good for you. One step at a time. Keep going.
