5 More Secrets of Healthy People You Need to Adopt
Article posted in: LifestyleWe already shared with you the 10 Simple Things Healthy People Do Every Single Day. But in case you’ve already mastered those, today we’re dishing out five more healthy habits you should consider adopting. They’re sweat-free and pain-free, and totally workable into your existing routine.
So scroll down and read up because you need to work these healthy habits into your day.
1. They always have a water bottle in their bag.
Every part of your body–cells, tissue, organs, all of it–needs water to function properly. Staying well-hydrated not only helps keep your systems running smoothing, but it may also help you manage your weight, suggests research published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Scientists examined the dietary habits of more than 18,300 adults and found people who drank an extra one, two or three cups of water per day cut up to 205 daily calories, as well as reduced their intake of saturated fat, sugar, sodium and cholesterol. A good goal: eight, 8-ounce glass of water a day; and to help you reach it: carry a reusable water bottle; toss in a few slices of lemon or lime to jazz up the flavor; or set an alert on your smart phone to remind you to drink.
2. They actually step on the bathroom scale.
And they do it pretty often. Research from the National Weight Control Registry–an ongoing study of more than 10,000 people who have lost and kept off significant amounts of weight–found that 75 percent of participants weigh themselves at least once a week. By keeping tabs, you can catch any small gains and take steps to get back on track. Your weight will fluctuate from day to day, and between morning and night. So it’s best to pick a day or two during the week to weigh yourself, and step on the scale first thing in the morning for your most accurate reading.
3. They swear off fad diets.
The promise of dramatic results is alluring, as are the claims that you can drop weight without breaking a sweat. But the simple truth is this: if the weight loss solution sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There is no product, pill or wacky food that will poof! make fat disappear. Diets that eliminate an entire food group or focuses only on liquids is not healthy and won’t result in long-term weight loss; and some fad diets may be dangerous to your health. If you want to lose weight, you need to control portions, eat a variety of foods and move more.
4. They keep a clean and organized kitchen.
That’s because clutter and chaos can cause stress and can leave you feeling out of control–both of which may lead to indulging on not-so-healthy foods. Scientists at Cornell University tested this exact theory and found in a messy kitchen, women ate twice as many cookies, when compared to ladies in the same space that was organized and quiet.
5. They don’t sweat the small stuff.
We’ve all have those moments of polishing off too much ice cream after a particularly tough day, or chomping on chip after chip (after chip) while rushing to meet a deadline. When you’re worked up all the time, however, stress hormone levels remain high, which then trigger hunger hormones. And stress eating is only a small part of it. Left unchecked, stress can contribute to many health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes. To help you keep your cool, try relaxation techniques (like ep breathing or yoga), exercise or spend time with family or friends for support.
