16 Weight Loss Tips from a Real Life Success Story
Article posted in: Success Stories - WomenMeet Laura Avon. She’s a mother, former school teacher, avid traveler, and former Nutrisystem customer who is happy to report that she lost 30 pounds on the Nutrisystem program.*
We caught up with this busy lady to find out what strategies she used to help her slim down. If these weight loss tips worked for her, they could work for you!
1. Drink lots of water.
And if you hate water, add some fresh fruits to your water pitcher. The sweetness will disperse and the taste is amazing!
2. Add tons of veggies to your meals.
Especially the soups. I pour the Nutrisystem soup into a large bowl and add tons of veggies, and I have a big hearty, healthy lunch that keeps me full till dinnertime! I love to pile broccoli on the pizzas, too! The frozen meals are great, but remember to add a nice side dish of your favorite veggies.
3. Stick to an exercise routine… and track it on paper.
Hold yourself accountable for your daily exercise. Let’s say you want to exercise 5 days a week: Put a smiley face in the box when you do it, and an X in the box when you don’t. You’d be surprised how you begin to feel guilty if you skip a day of your exercise plan!
4. Walk everyday.
Always take the stairs. Park your car in a far away spot when you shop. Not only does it give you exercise, but it also prevents car door dings and shopping cart smashes!
5. Do it for you AND for your family.
When you start making good food choices, the whole family benefits!
6. Don’t get “scale obsessed.”
I only weigh myself once a week. If you weigh yourself every day, you don’t see a significant drop. However, by sticking to the Nutrisystem plan, eating healthy, and exercising, you can get on the scale every week and notice a 1-2 pound weight drop!
7. Be prepared.
If I have a busy day, I’ll make sure I have my Nutrisystem Shake on hand. It’s super filling and great on the go!
8. It’s OK to go out to dinner.
Chefs are awesome at creating healthy meals. My staple dinner (when we go out) is grilled blackened chicken and a side of veggies.
9. Keep lots of celery in the fridge.
When I’m feeling hungry and need something crunchy, I’ll run to the fridge and grab one or two large stalks of celery. Chew it slowly and it lasts a long time. It’s a great snack idea for watching your favorite TV show. I also love to snack on the mini carrots!
10. Keep bags of frozen fruit in the freezer.
The supermarkets sell bags of frozen strawberries, peaches, blueberries, raspberries, etc. So, when you think you’re “out” of fresh fruits and want to make a shake, voila! Add skim milk, ice and a mix of frozen fruits to a blender and you have yourself a delicious cold smoothie!
11. When you usually work out with a friend but they cancel last minute, GO ANYWAY!
Be in control of your exercise routine. You will be happy you did!
12. Always carry a large bag of dried fruits in the car.
If I get super hungry, I’ll grab a small handful and eat them slowly as I’m driving. It’s better than caving in and stopping at a fast food restaurant!
13. Keep your motivation up.
It can take a little while for you (and others) to see results. Don’t give up! Once your body adjusts to your new lifestyle, the weight will fall off.
14. If you feel you have plateaued, change up your exercise routine.
Don’t let your muscles get used to the same routine. Also, try some new/different foods to mix things up.
15. Once you reach your goal, carry around a picture of what you used to look like.
When you think you’re going to make a bad food choice, just pull the picture out and stare at the “old you.” You won’t want to go back there again!
16. You started this journey for a reason. Remember what brought you to this place and make the right decision for YOU!
Weight loss means HEALTH… and a healthier you is a happier you!
