A New Beginning
The best time to start any weight loss plan? Some say after New Year’s. Others say a few months before your birthday or another milestone. But Krissy Frye has a different answer:
“If you’re ready, the best time to start is right now.”
“Everyone was asking me, ‘Why are you doing this before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s?” she says. Krissy had had enough of feeling depressed and getting poor marks on her blood sugar from her doctors. So she started Nurtisystem at a time when most people would be afraid to begin dieting: The week before Thanksgiving.
It makes sense that her friends and family were concerned: The average American gains about a pound over the holidays, according to The New England Journal of Medicine. But Krissy says that Nutrisystem helped—not just when she was eating pre-portioned Nutrisystem foods, but also at other meal occasions by teaching her what a healthy portion actually looks like.
Learning the Principles of a Healthy Lifestyle
“Your mind might tell you that your stomach is hungry, but push through it.”
Krissy began to understand the basic principles of a Nutrisystem healthy lifestyle, starting with retraining her brain on proper portion sizing. “That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the holidays, though. It just means that while relearning portion sizes, you might find that meals other than those on the big holidays are easier to rein in, Krissy says. “It is okay to indulge, but you’ll realize the portion size you’re eating and how it will make you feel.”
In her first week on Nutrisystem, the former college athlete lost seven pounds. Eating Turkey Sausage & Egg Muffins for breakfast, and enjoying White Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese while serving her kids homemade mac and cheese, Krissy says she didn’t just feel weight coming off, though—her mood improved drastically. And so did her blood sugar thanks to making healthier choices—which is a huge deal, since Krissy suffers from Type 1 diabetes. “When I went in to my endocrinologist, he was ecstatic about my A1C blood sugar numbers, and I was ecstatic.”
She didn’t just feel great at the doctor’s office, though, and felt that way for more than just a week. Krissy lost 36 pounds with Nutrisystem,* dropping baby weight, lowering her blood sugar numbers, and feeling more confident than she had in years.
“I was unhappy with how I felt in my clothes before Nutrisystem, and it really took away from my social life. But after losing 36 pounds, things changed for Krissy,
“My mood is much happier. I can fit back into clothes that I wore when I got married. My relationships are better and continue to thrive.”
So if you’re waiting for the right time to change your life, take Krissy’s advice: “Don’t think, just do! You can do it!”
