“I feel healthier and look healthier—all thanks to Nutrisystem.”Article posted in: Success Stories - Men
When you’re young, long-term health risks like heart attack, cancer, diabetes and arthritis can seem really far off—something to worry about later. Making an effort to feel healthier is often put on the back burner.
But when 28-year old Jonathan W.’s doctor told him he was obese, he had cause to worry right away. More than one-third of all American adults are obese, according to a National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) Data Brief. Studies published on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) site have shown that obesity is a condition that greatly increases risks of diabetes, stroke and heart attack.
“My grandfather struggled with his weight, and he had a heart attack at the age of 32,” he says. That was just four years away for Jonathan. “I didn’t want the same fate.”
Jonathan took “a leap of faith” and tried Nutrisystem, combining it with a new, daily exercise regimen. And his faith was rewarded: Eating Cheddar Mac & Cheese for lunch and snacking on pound cake, he lost 130 pounds—and counting.*
And while the long-term benefits of reduced disease risk were hard to see, the short-term benefits were not, he says.
“I can now be active and not get tired. I can fit in an airplane seat without stretching out the belt.,” he says. “I have more energy. I no longer snore. I’m more flexible and don’t get tired on long walks. My knees and feet stopped hurting.”
Whenever he got discouraged or slipped up, Jonathan remembered that he wasn’t making a change for a day, but one for life.
“Everyone will slip, but the journey is important. It is a lifestyle change,” he says. “Every day is another step toward the weight loss goal. The important step is to continue toward health.”
When Nutrisystem members find themselves slipping, they can always ask for help: It’s not just food that Nutrisystem provides, but free weight loss coaches available via phone to provide motivation, explain the program or help you break through a plateau and take the next step toward a healthier life.
The most important step, though, is up to you, Jonathan says,: The first step. But your own “leap of faith” doesn’t have to be a huge one.
“Go pick up a five-day Nutrisystem kit at Walmart or Costco. Just give it a try,” he says. Five days isn’t a lot of commitment, but it could be enough to start losing weight and decide that the program could work for you. “The food is good. The system works. I feel healthier and look healthier—All thanks to Nutrisystem.”
