Enhance your personalized Nutrisystem plan with the NuMi app! Now even more personalized for YOUR unique metabolism, NuMi is your all-in-one resource for logging, inspiration and accountability. We’ve added some new features so that it fits seamlessly into your weight loss plan. Check out this handy guide for a run-down on everything you need to know about using NuMi on your personalized Nutrisystem program.
Before we hop into all of these amazing new features, it’s important to understand why keeping a food journal is so beneficial. In a study, Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research found that people who kept a diary of everything they ate lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t. And it’s no wonder: writing down what you eat each day can help you stay mindful and accountable. It keeps you organized as you keep track of your daily food, water and exercise. It can even help you spot trends in your eating habits that may be impacting your weight loss goals.
While the traditional “pen and paper” food diary can certainly be beneficial, a personalized app that considers your individual metabolism is undeniably superior. And that’s exactly what our FREE NuMi app does! Keep reading for our guide to using NuMi on your unique weight loss journey.

Here’s a quick guide to your personalized weight loss journey in NuMi:
1. Week One
The first week of your program is a lower in calories and designed to kick-off your weight loss momentum. You will follow a special Week 1 Guide and enjoy specially selected Nutrisystem meals, snacks and shakes each day. Make sure to download the NuMi® app for your personalized list of recommended Week 1 foods that will be in your box. You will also add in at least four servings of non-starchy vegetables and 64 ounces of water.
When setting up your NuMi account, be sure to check off that you are in your first week. These first seven days are lower in calories to jumpstart weight loss: NuMi will set up your journal to be 1,000 calories per day.*
Those who have around 100 pounds to lose will need to add in some extra groceries to the first week. If you are an apple body type, we recommend adding in two extra PowerFuels each day for this situation. If you have a pear, hourglass or rectangle body shape, we recommend adding in one extra PowerFuel and one extra SmartCarb. NuMi should automatically add in these additions for you. 2. Personalized Calorie Goal
Now that you’re finished your first week (Way to go!), NuMi will update your calories to a number that’s unique to you. When you originally placed your first Nutrisystem order, you took a quiz that helped to create your personalized program. NuMi will confirm these quiz answers, then calculate your personalized calorie goal.
Once your personalized calories are calculated, they won’t change for the next 28 days until you enter week six. This ultimately helps you to form good habits and sets you up for success in your first month.
3. Weight Loss Progress
Beginning in week six, your meal plan and calories will start to adapt to your changing metabolism. NuMi adapts to YOU as you keep track of your weight loss and your activity level. It adjusts your meal plan as you lose weight to keep your success going!
After one full month on your personalized meal plan, we’ll check to see if we need to recalculate your calories based on any weight loss milestones you’ve hit or changes to your activity level.
Log your weight loss progress in NuMi to enjoy smart updates to your calorie goal and meal plan! These changes occur each time you reach a 10 pound weight loss milestone. At that time, we will check in with you in the NuMi app to adapt your plan to your changing metabolism. Simply answer the questions in NuMi when prompted and we will adjust your calories and/or meal plan if needed.
Calculations are based on a variety of weight loss factors, including:
- How much weight you are losing.
- Changes in your activity level.
- Your age, gender and body type.
By taking these factors into account, NuMi is able to adapt your meal plan and calorie goal to your unique metabolism. As you lose weight and/or become more active, your calorie goal and meal plan will change, meaning you may add an apple to your lunch, or remove the second egg from your breakfast as your metabolism changes.

1. Personalized Resources
Your NuMi News Feed is your go-to spot for everything Nutrisystem. To get to the News Feed, select “More” in the bottom right corner of your journal, then “News Feed.” Here you’ll find everything from tips and recipes to challenges and special offers. We’ve also created “Best For You” and “Guides” sections in NuMi, which contain personalized resources and content to guide you to success.
You will have access to your Personalized Grocery Guide in NuMi for suggestions on the best foods for you based on your body type, age and gender. Enjoy a personalized content filled with tips, articles and recipes that are best for you.
In addition to your personalized News Feed, NuMi sends you smart reminders if you forget to track your progress. If you hit a bump in the road on your weight loss journey, it will also connect you with the resources you need to get back on track.
2. Food Scanner
Logging your Nutrisystem meal is as easy as snapping a picture! The built-in barcode scanner allows you to log your food wherever you are, without typing a single word. Simply tap the orange plus sign at the bottom of your journal, then tap “Scan.” Allow NuMi access to your camera and log your meals in a “snap!”
3. Quick Logging
A busy lifestyle needs quick and easy tracking! That’s why we’ve created a Quick Log feature that allows you to do just that; quickly log food categories with one simple tap (think Nutrisystem Entrées, SmartCarbs and PowerFuels). Instead of having to search, scan or custom create a food, you can log a generic food category from our program. The Quick Log feature will estimate the calories based upon the food category you log. To use this feature, head to your Journal and simply tap the circular icon to the left of the food category that you want to log. You can also Quick Log vegetables, activity and water at the bottom of your journal.
4. Food Database
Our food database contains more than half a million foods. We also include some of our most popular recipes from The Leaf for easy logging! To search for a specific food in our database, tap the orange plus sign at the bottom of your Journal and tap “Food.” Type the food you’re looking for in the search bar at the top, select it from the results, make any necessary adjustments, then click “Log It” to add it to your journal.
You can also log your water, weight and activity by tapping on that orange plus sign. If you select “Activity,” you can search our database for the specific exercise you are looking for.
5. Custom Logging
Can’t find a food in our database? No problem! You can create a custom food and manually enter specific nutrition information. Tap the orange plus sign at the bottom of your journal, select “Food” and then select “Create Food” at the top. Fill out each section and tap “Save.” Adjust the serving size, date and meal category as needed, then click “Log It.”
Good news: you only have to add a custom food once—after that it will always be stored on your “Favorites” list.
6. Save Your Favorites
Create a personalized “Favorites” list of all of your favorite Nutrisystem foods and grocery additions! Simply tap the “heart” symbol on any food you like and we will automatically add it to your “Favorites.” The items will appear in alphabetical order. Your “Favorites” list is a handy shortcut if you tend to stick to the same meals and snacks.
7. Helpful Reminders
Never forget that afternoon snack again! NuMi makes the adjustment to a regular eating schedule even easier with helpful reminders. Whether you need some help getting in that water intake or eating all of your veggies, you can create personalized reminders that fit your life. Click “More” in the bottom right corner of your journal, then select “Reminders.” Choose what you’d like to be reminded about and set a specified time to be notified.
8. Fitbit and Step Tracking
Connect your Fitbit device to your NuMi account for seamless activity tracking! Just tap “More” on the bottom of your NuMi screen, select “Settings” then “Connect Device.” Your activity minutes and steps will be automatically be logged.
If you have an iPhone 5S or newer, you can also set up Apple Step Tracking. Tap “More” at the bottom of your NuMi journal, then “Settings” and “Step Tracking.” We will automatically log your steps as activity in your journal.
9. Fun Challenges
Participate in fun tracking challenges throughout your weight loss journey! Be sure to always check your News Feed to stay up to date on our most recent challenges. Most of the challenges involve simple logging tasks that help you stick to your meal plan and learn along the way. Earn prizes, discounts and more!
10. The Leaf
Get easy access to The Leaf Weight Loss Blog with one simple tap! Stay on top of our latest content, tips, tricks and recipes. You can find The Leaf in your NuMi app at the bottom of your journal. You can also access specific articles and recipes from your News Feed.
11. A La Carte Deals and Ordering
Stock up on your favorite Nutrisystem products right in the NuMi app! You can shop our a la carte store by going to “More” then “Shop.” Explore app-exclusive discounts and fill your kitchen with nutritious and delicious meals.
