Make grilling easier with foil packet recipes! This creative cooking method for the grill helps to lock in flavor and create perfectly portioned meals that the whole family will love. To help you stay on track this summer season, we’ve created some grill-friendly versions of some of your favorite seasonal foods that come together in a weight loss-friendly portion (Grilled Foil Packet Apple Crisp, anyone?) Next up, we’re grilling a healthier take on a classic summer meal: the cheeseburger.
Did you know that you can enjoy a hearty burger and still lose weight? Our Grilled Foil Packet Cheeseburger and Veggies recipe pairs a tender, lean beef burger patty with creamy cheddar cheese and a medley of veggies. To make the burger, simply combine ground beef with an egg, garlic powder and black pepper and form it into patties. For the vegetables, mix together sliced onions, chopped zucchini and quartered baby potatoes with a little olive oil and pepper.
Spray four sheets of foil with nonstick cooking spray, then fill them up with the vegetables. Top each one with a burger patty and seal up the foil into packets. Throw them on a grill for 40 to 45 minutes or until the potatoes are soft and the burger is fully cooked. Once it’s done, open up the packets and place a slice of low-fat cheddar cheese on top of each burger patty. Close it up for another two to three minutes until the cheese is nice and melted.
This cheeseburger recipe makes four servings, so the whole family can get in on this grilled goodness. One serving contains 345 calories. On the Nutrisystem weight loss plan? You can log this delicious summer dinner as one SmartCarb, two PowerFuels, one Extra and one Vegetable in the NuMi app, our easy-to-use companion app that provides an organized place to keep track of your daily food intake and weight loss.
Healthy Hacks: You can swap your favorite cheese into this cheeseburger recipe, such as low-fat pepper jack or mozzarella. You can also substitute different non-starchy vegetables that you enjoy. Cherry tomatoes, bell peppers and mushrooms are all delicious with cheeseburgers. You can also use chopped sweet potatoes instead of the baby potatoes. Want to make this cheeseburger a sandwich? You can omit the potatoes and serve your burger patty on a whole grain bun instead. Both are considered SmartCarbs on Nutrisystem.
