Cheesy Pizza Waffles with vegetables and herbs

Breakfast and dinner unite in this creative take on waffles! If you love fluffy waffles and cheesy pizza, wait until you try the two together in this savory morning meal. Cheesy Pizza Waffles have the Italian flavor you crave and are a unique breakfast, brunch or lunch that will impress the whole family!

Waffles go savory in this hearty dish, which features mozzarella cheese, chopped veggies, Italian herbs and marinara sauce for dipping. They’re a healthy and creative twist on waffles, with extra fiber from whole wheat pastry flour, green peppers and mushrooms. Egg and mozzarella cheese add protein, while oregano and garlic powder provide some low-calorie flavor. Swap maple syrup for marinara sauce and you’ve got an easy, cheesy meal that can be enjoyed any time of the day!

How to Make Cheese Pizza Waffles

To make this recipe for pizza waffles, combine whole wheat pastry flour, baking powder, oregano and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl. Stir in unsweetened almond milk and an egg, then fold in part skim shredded mozzarella cheese, chopped mushrooms and chopped green bell peppers.

Pour the batter into a well-greased waffle iron and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crispy. The recipe should make about two large waffles. If you have a mini waffle iron, it could make about three to four smaller waffles depending on the size. Serve your finished waffles with a side of warm marinara sauce for dipping.

Other Extras and Free Foods can also be enjoyed atop these waffles, including classic pizza toppings like olives or sliced jalapenos. Just be sure to keep track of them in your NuMi app journal!
